evoTV submits insight to Convergence Review
Monday, 1 August 2011evoTV has provided its insight to the Convergence Review conducted by the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.
In its submission, evoTV responded to several principles up for review with importance placed on diversity, access, innovation and competition and public benefit.
It said: “We believe that the principles that shape the review and a future communications environment should promote the ability of content providers to achieve access to the widest possible audience. While online content growth is a reality, the majority of content is still consumed through traditional methods, such as broadcast television. The principles that shape a new communications policy environment should consider the facilitation of access to broader audiences for niche content providers.”
Regarding the role of niche content providers, evoTV said: “The role and influence of niche content providers, in producing programs that target particular sectors of the population, is increasing as we come to learn more about audiences through avenues such as social media. The role that these content providers play in fulfilling social objectives such as financial literacy is also a reality which is currently being played out in Australian society.”
Most notably, evoTV made specific comment on intellectual property rights in an online environment: “As a producer of original Australian content, evoTV believes that intellectual property rights in an online environment are also critical to maximising innovation, business confidence and growth,” said the founder and CEO of evolution media group, Vanessa Stoykov.
